Oscar Simms is a London-based director interested in music, theatre and education, often at the same time. He is a Junior Fellow of the Guildhall School of Music & Drama (2025-26), having previously been Young Artist Director with Waterperry Opera Festival (2024-25).

Oscar has worked as an associate or assistant director for Opera North (Simon Boccanegra, 2025, Dir. PJ Harris), Opera Holland Park (Itch, 2025, Dir. Stephen Barlow), Edinburgh International Festival (The Veil of the Temple, 2025, Dir. Thomas Guthrie), Buxton International Festival (Hamlet, 2025, Dir. Jack Furness), the Southbank Centre (Mahler 8, 2025, Dir. Tom Morris), the London Handel Festival (Tales of Apollo & Hercules, 2025, Dir. Thomas Guthrie), the Royal Academy of Music (Hänsel and Gretel, 2024, Dir. Jack Furness), Waterperry Opera Festival (The Turn of the Screw, 2024, Dir. Rebecca Meltzer) and the Arcola Theatre (Jane Eyre, 2025, Dir. Eleanor Burke; Trouble in Tahiti, 2023, Dir. Finn Lacey; Bluebeard’s Castle, 2022, Dir. Eleanor Burke).

Oscar is a Trustee of Music & Theatre For All and is especially interested in storytelling in community settings. As a facilitator, he has worked in a range of workshop settings with Create, the UK’s leading participatory arts charity. He also works regularly with the Pimlico Musical Foundation, including directing their production of Noye’s Fludde in 2023, which followed a six-week programme of workshops in local primary schools, connecting Britten’s opera to curriculum teaching about climate change.
